Where to start

First decide whether you want patient facing work or not. If not, research administration, data management, quality assurance and research governance are all real routes in.

Your experience in admin, data, finance or quality transfers directly. Many career changers get in through a trust role first, then move across into research.

What to focus on

Lead with transferable proof

Admin, data, quality, scheduling and customer facing work all map onto research criteria.

Show accuracy and confidentiality with real examples

Attention to detail is the quality panels test most for non clinical roles.

Add Microsoft 365 and data skills

Excel and data management courses are worth more for these roles than collecting clinical certificates.

Be ready for "why research?"

Have a clear, honest answer about why you are moving and what you bring.
